Denise Byrnes Graham

Art

Art gives me the power to express myself and to communicate my impressions of what I see and feel.

I am a painter in acrylics, oil, and pastels.

What’s the story behind your work?

My work is always evolving. I have been drawing and painting for many years. I primarily paint landscapes, more recently, intuitive abstracts and abstract landscapes.

What do you hope people feel when they see it?

I hope people see the beauty of nature when they see my landscapes.I hope my abstracts elicit excitement and curiosity.

How does your work connect to community or bring people together?

I enter my work into shows that bring community together such as North River Festival of the Arts, South Shore Arts Festival, and local art shows. These are wonderful celebrations of community that bring artists, artisans, and patrons of the arts together.

Who helped you along the way?

My mother was very supportive and encouraging, not only of drawing and painting, but also of my individuality. My art teacher at Cohasset High School, Tom Lucas, was helpful and encouraged me to pursue art after graduation. Every class or workshop I have taken has been beneficial. My family is also supportive.

How do you give back or support others?

I support all the local art organizations, I volunteer time with them, and have donated paintings. I also purchase local original art. We have many talented artists on the South Shore.
